BUILDING INTEGRATED
HOUSING DESIGN STUDIO

PHASE 1

Diagramming Dynamic Context

This research gradient provides us with an opportunity to contextualize and familiarize ourselves with Baltimore and its key urban factors. The orientation of Baltimore blocks is kept the same within our drawings and our chosen subjects will become part of your conceptual trajectory within the design phase.

PHASE 2

Precedent Analysis

In this phase of our work, we explored precedent domestic frameworks through an INTERNAL ‘kit-of-rooms’ approach while challenging private and public domestic boundaries and organizational strategies using bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, and living room interior matrices. Listed precedent categories were carefully chosen to dovetail with the conceptual projections for our projects.

PHASE 3

Design

Building from the knowledge gained from our contextual research and precedent analysis, we were tasked with developing a thoughtful domestic scheme incorporating two living types. We were meant to create a site strategy in order to contextualize our project within Baltimore. On a smaller scale, we then had to take influence from our precedent to develop unique systems of the domestic life of 2 styles of living.

Unit Plan "Stacking" Animation

This animation begins with directional lines, appearing in that of a pinwheel formation. the Blue fill represents wet walls that demonstrate the spiraling momentum of the units. The Building perimeter then slices away any residual lines revealing the overall plan of the project. Each unit now appears floor by floor, demonstrating the animate nature of each unit and their relation to each other and the consistent cores of the project (I.E.)
